Choose your languages
On this page
The dashboard offers 40 languages to choose from.
Source language#
The source language is the language your site is written in. You choose it when you add the site. You cannot change it later, because the keys that identify each string depend on it. If you picked the wrong one, add a new site.
The source language is free. It does not count against your plan.
Target languages#
Target languages are the ones you translate into. Your plan sets how many you can have per site:
| Plan | Target languages |
|---|---|
| Free | 1 |
| Solo | 1 |
| Starter | 3 |
| Growth | 6 |
| Scale | Unlimited |
| Agency | Unlimited |
| Business | Set per agreement |
| Shopify S, M, L, XL | 1, 3, 6, and all |
These are the plan numbers in the product's design. The prices are in Plans and the AI-word allowance. Public pricing is OPEN until launch.
Tips for choosing#
- Start with the languages where you already have visitors or customers.
- Add one language at a time. Check a few key pages before you add the next.
- Every language adds its own file to your published files. Each new language also uses your AI-word allowance the first time its text is translated.
- Adding a language later translates only what is missing.
Language codes#
Languages use standard codes such as fr, pt-BR or zh-Hans. A code with a region lets you offer, for example, Brazilian Portuguese.
When the product writes hreflang tags, it leaves out codes that Google's hreflang does not support. A region-only code and numeric regions such as es-419 are dropped from the tags. See hreflang.
Right-to-left languages#
Arabic, Persian, Hebrew and Urdu are marked as right to left. See Right-to-left languages.
Machine translation quality#
Quality differs by language and by text. This help center makes no promise about quality. Always read the pages that matter. See Machine and reviewed translations.
