Ownership and leaving

What is yours#
The translations are yours, including the ones a machine produced for you. You can export them at any time, in standard formats. See Export your translations.
Files that are already on your own site stay on your own site. We cannot remove them.
If you cancel or your plan lapses#
- Published translations keep serving.
- You can still export.
- Publishing and new machine translation are blocked until you have an active plan again.
If you close your account#
These are proposals, not decisions: OPEN.
- Your data is read-only for 30 days so you can export.
- It is then deleted within a further 30 days.
- Backups roll off within 35 days.
- Copies on the content delivery networks are deleted at the end.
Two numbers that disagree#
The billing design keeps CDN copies for 12 months after a plan lapses. The privacy design deletes CDN copies at termination. These cover different events (a lapse and a closed account). The owner must confirm both, and a lawyer should check the wording: OPEN.
Why this matters#
The aim is that you can leave without losing your work. Keeping published files live after a lapse also lowers the cost of switching, and the owner may balance that against the wish to keep customers. That balance is OPEN.
Asking for deletion#
Because we act for you with your visitors' data, requests from your visitors go through you. The product is meant to let you search for a string and delete it with its translations. Whether that tool is part of the first release is OPEN.
