Translate a store, including the parts that are hard to translate

Stores are made of products, variants, menus and small interface strings. A good translation keeps prices, placeholders and brand names safe and lets you edit what matters.

Who it is for

  • Merchants adding languages to an existing store.
  • Store teams who edit product copy by hand in the platform.
  • Anyone worried that a translation tool will break the cart.

Honest limits

  • Checkout, customer accounts, order status pages and notification emails on Shopify are rendered by Shopify and use its own languages. Squarespace also does not allow custom code on checkout.
  • We translate text, not prices. Currency, tax and shipping stay with your store platform.
  • Product tags cannot be translated through Shopify's API; text hard-coded in a custom theme may not be reachable.
  • WooCommerce-specific behaviour has not been tested separately. The WordPress plugin translates what the theme and plugins output.
  • Shopify app: not in the App Store yet.

How it works in 3 steps

  1. Set terms and exclusions

Add a glossary for product and brand terms, and mark parts of a page as do-not-translate.

  2. Translate and review

Machine translation, then edit product pages first. Placeholders such as {{ count }} are protected, and a value is written only when every part of it has a valid translation.

  3. Publish

On Shopify, translations go into the store's own translation system and Shopify serves the language URLs. On WordPress stores, pages are served from your own site's translated files.

Questions

Will translations break variants or prices?

Translation does not touch prices. Placeholders are protected, and an incomplete or malformed translation is rejected instead of written.

Can I keep my hand-written translations?

Yes. On Shopify existing current translations are skipped unless you choose to overwrite them.

Can I translate product URLs?

On Shopify handle translation is opt-in because changing a handle later can break redirects. See the guide on slugs before you decide.

What about checkout?

It stays with the platform. Use Shopify's checkout languages; our loader does not run there.
