Preview before you publish
The preview shows your real page with your saved draft translations applied, before anything is published.
Open it#
On the site page, editors, admins and owners see Preview and edit. It opens /preview/ for that site. You can also reach it from the translation editor. The button appears only when preview is switched on in your environment. It is off by default.
What you see#
Your page is shown in a frame, or in a new window if your page forbids frames. A toolbar says "Preview – not published". Your draft translations replace the text on the page, and your original text comes back when you close it.
Rules#
- The page must be on one of your site's allowed origins. Otherwise the dashboard will not frame it.
- The preview works on the original-language version of the page. If a language has already been applied, the dashboard asks you to switch back first.
- Nothing is published. The preview only reads your drafts. To go live, use Publish now. See Publish changes.
Editing from the preview#
You can click a string and edit it. That is the visual editor. See Edit on your live page.
Not finished#
The preview needs your signed files to list the dashboard's address in a field called previewOrigins. The shared file format has that field now. The publisher and the loader do not use it yet: OPEN. Until then, the preview does not work end to end.
