Translate without a translation provider
Automatic translation needs a translation provider. Until one is connected, the translate button in the editor explains that, with a link to the translation settings page. Nothing else is blocked.
What you can do now#
- Type each translation yourself in the editor. It is saved as Manual and is never replaced by a machine run.
- Export your strings as XLIFF, CSV or PO, have them translated anywhere, and import the file back. See Import translations.
- Preview, review, publish and install exactly as usual.
Demo text#
On a test installation the operator can allow a demo translation. It does not translate: it marks each string, for example “[fr] Ádd tó çárt”, keeps tags and placeholders intact and can be reversed. The editor labels it, and a published file that contains it says so. Replace it with real translations before you tell anyone the site is translated.
Connecting a provider later#
Connecting a provider is a setting on the server, so ask whoever runs the installation. After that, strings that are still untranslated can be translated automatically. Text you wrote or imported stays as it is. Which providers are supported at launch is OPEN.
